Prominent Journals in the Biomedical Sciences

Determining which journals are respected sources of primary research literature can be difficult if you're not an expert in the field. Although most scientists have their personal favorites, a more quantitative assessment of "High-Impact Journals*" is published periodically by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). The ISI tracks publication and citation data over a defined period of time, and uses the information to compile lists of journals that are frequently cited in other scientific papers. Use the links below to find out which journals were rated "High-Impact" in your field of study.

Antatomy & Morphology

Biology & Biochemistry

Developmental Biology

Immunology

Microbiology

Molecular Biology & Genetics

Neuroscience

Neuroscience & Behavior

Pharmacology & Toxicology

*Keep in mind that journal citations are assessed over a defined period of time (e.g. 1992-2000), and that most impact analyses don't include journals that publish only review articles. Consequently, some high-impact journals may not appear on the list if they were published only recently or if they publish only review articles.
