Historically speaking, the NIH has ranked funding
for Biophysics together with funding for Physiology
& Biophysics, reflecting the tendency of most
medical schools to offer a combined Physiology
& Biophysics department. The NIH published
funding for stand-alone Biophysics departments
for the first time in 2004. Now, only 2 of 122
medical schools has a Biophysics department that
is listed separately in the 2005 funding tables.
Consequently, a review of the 2005
funding tables may more accurately reflect
the options available for prospective students
of Biophysics.
